Besides all of the cool technology and clever folks, HIMSS was quite an eye-opening event as the country’s healthcare discussion drags on ad infinitum. For those of you who think you know all the facts around the healthcare debate, check out the opening remarks of Barry Chaiken, MD, one of the head guys at HIMSS – scary! Interestingly, most of the problems and inefficiencies we continuously hear about had solutions on display at HIMSS. It would appear that integrated, ubiquitous solutions can in fact cure many of our major health care ills. (more…)

Drinks at the W in Atlanta for the HIMSS innovation awards were very cool, trendy, happening, hip, hop, exclusive, rad …….. whatever - the place was tedious, trying too hard. Judging from the audience’s positive reaction, Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse hit the nail on the head Monday when he presented on wireless technology in the health care industry. He couldn’t have chosen a riper industry. Even beyond all the political noise, this is an industry in transformation. Pressure? You got it–cost cutting and a huge push to increase the quality of care for starters.
Hesse says one key to all of this is wireless. He delivered his keynote address to the HIMSS (Health Information and Management Systems Society) annual conference in Atlanta. (more…)
