Four Key Benefits of Enterprise Femtocells
A recent article in UC Magazine by Richard “Zippy” Grigonis caught my attention. Despite the magazine’s usual B2B focus, most of the article addressed the consumer benefits of femtocells. Which is fine, except the emphasis on coverage – particularly when it comes to the enterprise – sells femtocells short. The technology is far more encompassing than that.
Beyond enhancing coverage inside office buildings or on campuses, enterprise femtocells enable the enterprise the ability to extend corporate PBX features and functionality to the remote user’s mobile phone. So not only will remote users have better coverage in the office, but they’ll be able to benefit from a single number and a unified voice mailbox, as well as the same fixed calling rates they would have if they were working at the company’s main office.
I count four key benefits of an enterprise femtocell, as follows:
1. Enabling seamless integration of the mobile device and desktop phone provides a single number with a unified voice mailbox.
2. By increasing productivity and data throughput, it reduces demand on the WAN.
3. They reduce costs for enterprises with an integrated FMC platform in which mobile phones are integrated with the PBX.
4. The improved indoor coverage allows IT organizations to expand FMC capabilities throughout the enterprise.
